by Allegra Wermuth and Brandy Fortune

As I write this letter, there is a definite chill in the air. We've had a 40 degree drop within 24 hours. Is this Mother Nature's not-so-subtle way of saying goodbye to Summer and hello to the knit-friendly season of Fall?

Let's reminisce about Summer 2009 for a minute. What a wonderful three months it's been here at Petite Purls! We cannot be happier with the warm welcome that we received from the knitting world back in June when we launched our premier issue. Our designs were overnight hits and the buzz around the internet about the site has been so exciting. Since our launch, we have been mentioned on many blogs and other websites, as well as a full page article in Yarn Forward Magazine. We helped collaborate on a sock yarn colorway, met a lovely knitwear designer, our daughters both turned two (two days apart) and last, but definitely not least, a baby was born! Brandy had her second daughter "LG" in early August and it continues to amaze me how well she is balancing her new life with two little girls AND is still able to get our Fall Issue up on time! You can read more about these fun summer events later this week on our blog.
Now let's get back to Fall. We have really enjoyed putting this issue together for you. We were floored by the amount of design submissions that came in over the summer and are really proud to bring you the collection we have chosen. We have enjoyed working with each designer, getting to know them a little bit, and helping them bring their vision to life with great photos, wonderful colors, and of course their wonderful designs. We think you will be happy with our selections. A little something for every child!

We are so excited to be unveiling two new features here at Petite Purls: Crochet Corner and Sew Petite. So many mamas and others that knit for children love all sorts of crafts, how could we not expand with some crochet and some sewing? We plan to have one crochet design showcased, as well as a sewing project or tutorial in each issue. Our featured "Sew Petite" crafter is Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood, the host of the podcast, Craftsanity. She is a great example of a successful crafty mama and we are thrilled that she has joined us for our first "Sew Petite" feature.

We thank you again for your wonderful support for Petite Purls! Now stop reading this letter and go check out the rest of the Issue! :)

Brandy

Brandy Fortune began knitting in 2003 when she took what she thought was a crochet class at a local yarn store. In 2007 Brandy gave birth to her daughter, and knit several sweaters throughout her pregnancy. While there were loads of darling patterns, she wanted something a little different. Thus began her adventures in designing knitwear for babies. You can read the Pixie Purls blog, and see her other knitwear designs by visiting her website.
