Blast Off

By Jenna Swanson
Easy

3…2…1…BLAST OFF!  After seeing several shows featuring rockets, space, and the moon, my son decided he “needed” a toy rocket. I decided I “needed” to make one for him. Blast Off serves double duty- transporting astronauts to the moon and beyond, and transporting sleepy heads to dreamland. It’s knit entirely in the round, down to the last burner.

Pattern Notes

Body is worked first, followed by fins and burners.

In order to avoid ‘jogs’ when switching from one color to the next, knit one round with the new color, when you come to the first stitch of the next round, pick up the right leg of the stitch below (in the old color) and knit it together with these two stitches together.

Skills Required

Knitting in the round, knitting on dpns, three needle bind off.

Jenna enjoys designing patterns that fit the gap between beginner knits and complicated patterns. Her favorite garments to design are socks and boy’s items. She took up knitting in 2004 after watching her mother-in-law knit a sock. It stuck, unlike her many other hobbies, to the delight of her husband. She is getting used to knitting and living in Texas.
