My daughters have store bought socks with a ruffle that goes over their shoes. I was wondering if I could make my own knitted version of them. I tried, and it worked! Great socks for school and any other children's activities.

Foot circumference: 51/2[6, 61/2] inches unstretched
Foot length: 5[6, 71/2] inches or desired length
Spud & Chloe™ Fine [80% merino wool, 20% silk; 248 yards/227 meters per 2.3 ounce/65 gram skein];
#7800 Popcorn – 1[1, 2] skeins
US #2/2.75 mm double pointed needles (set of 4 or 5)
29 sts = 4 inches in St st
The sock is worked from the top down starting with the leg in 1x1 ribbing. The ruffle is added after the sock is finished.
1x1 Ribbing
Round 1: *K1, p1; repeat from * around.
Repeat Round 1 until measures needed length.
Lacy Edging
Round 1: K1, ssk, yo, k2tog, *k2, ssk, yo, k2tog; repeat from * around to last st, k1.
Round 2: P2, make 5 sts out of next st (yo) – [k1, yo, k1, yo, k1], *p4, make 5 sts out of next st (yo) – [k1, yo, k1, yo, k1]; repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Bind off all sts in knit.
Circular knitting on dpns
Cast on 48[52, 56] sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. Work in 1x1 Ribbing for 4[5, 6] inches.
Row 1: slip 1, k24[26, 28]; turn work.
Row 2: slip 1, p24[26, 28]; turn work.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until Flap measures 1[11/2, 2] inches, ending with a WS row.
Row 1 (RS): Slip 1, k15[16, 17], k2tog; turn work.
Row 2: Slip 1, p7, p2tog; turn work.
Row 3: Slip 1, k7, k2tog; turn work.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until all side stitches are decreased. 9 stitches. Finish with WS: turn work. This will be new beginning of the round. Pm.

Round 1: K9, pick up and knit 7[8, 9] sts, k23[25, 27], pick up and knit 7[8, 9] sts: 46[50, 54] sts.
Round 2: Knit around.
Round 3: K14[15, 16], ssk, k23[25, 27], k2tog, k5[6, 7]: 44[48, 52] sts.
Round 4: Knit around
Round 5: K13[14, 15], ssk, k23[25, 27], k2tog, k4[5, 6]: 42[46, 50] sts.
Round 6: Knit around.
Round 7: K12[13, 14], ssk, k23[25, 27], k2tog, k3[4, 5]: 40[44, 48] sts.
Work even in St st until foot length is 4[5, 61/4] inches from bottom of Heel Flap.
Round 1: *K2tog, k8[9, 10]; repeat from * around: 36[40, 44] sts.Round 2: *K2tog, k7[8, 9]; repeat from * around: 32[36, 40] sts.
Round 3: *K2tog, k6[7, 8]; repeat from * around: 28[32, 36] sts.
Round 4: *K2tog, k5[6, 7]; repeat from * around: 24[28, 32] sts.
Round 5: *K2tog, k4[5, 6]; repeat from * around: 20[24, 28] sts.
Round 6: *K2tog, k3[4, 5]; repeat from * around: 16[20, 24] sts.
Round 7: *K2tog, k2[3, 4]; repeat from * around: 12[16, 20] sts.
Round 8: *K2tog, k1[2, 3]; repeat from * around: 8[12, 16] sts.
Sizes M and L Only
Round 9: *K2tog, k[1, 2]; repeat from * around: [8, 12] sts.
Sizes L Only
Round 10: *K2tog, k1; repeat from * around: 8 sts.
Cut yarn, draw through the remaining sts, pulling tightly to close. Weave in ends.

Return to the cast on edge. With WS facing, pick up and knit 2 sts, yo. Repeat to end of the round. 72[78, 84] sts.
Next Round: Purl.
Work in St st for 1/2[3/4, 1] inch.
Next Round: work 12[13, 14] horizontal repeats of Lacy Edging pattern.
Block. Ruffle will curl up if it is not blocked. Set your iron on wool. Press ruffle and foot through damp cloth. Do not press ribbing!
