I’m sitting here watching the snow fall, drinking my nth cup of tea for the day, wearing a pair of hand knit socks on my feet, one of my cowl designs around my neck, and if my house wasn’t in such disarray, I’d be wearing a pair of handknit fingerless mitts. Winter has come early to the US, my friends! I notice “muggles” (as Stephanie Pearl-McPhee would call non-knitters) walking around looking miserable, but can recognize a knitter right away because of the sheer happiness on their face! Whether it’s digging into those cold weather knits or gift knitting, knitters are in their element in this cold weather.
Well, I can tell you that we have plenty of cold weather knits from this issue to add to your to-do list. Brandy and I are floored by how huge this issue is! We decided to try something new and have four collections in this issue: Winter Wonderland (blue and white), Into the Woods (outdoorsy garments), Tea Time (special knits) and Toy Land (sweet knitted toys). I think they all turned out beautifully.
We have some special guests in this issue. First of all, a return contributor from our Fall 2009 issue, Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood will be joining us on a regular basis, bringing us great articles in her “Crafting Sanity” column. We are thrilled that she has joined us and we look forward to all of her upcoming articles. Another special guest, at least to me, is my father, Thomas Wermuth, who is a contributor this issue! His Snowflakes set is his first published pattern and if I may say so myself, it is a darling pattern, with a darling model. And last, but definitely not least, we are beyond thrilled that Susan B. Anderson has joined us for an interview and a pattern that she has graciously given us permission to use from her newest book, Itty Bitty Toys.
If you are not signed up for our newsletter, or you do not subscribe to our blog, run, don’t walk, on over to our FAQ page for more information. We will be hosting our very first blog giveaway this week! Tomorrow, I will be posting information on how you can win some yarn that is featured in one of our Winter patterns! I’m not going to tell you which pattern, so you’re going to have to check the blog!
As 2009 comes to a close, we want to thank all of our past and current sponsors, our designers and writers and most of all, you, our readers. You have made us feel so welcome in the online knitting community. We look forward to bringing you a lot of wonderful issues in the future!
We hope that you enjoy our Winter issue as much as we do. And now, if you don’t mind, while you check it out, Brandy, Joan and I are going to settle in for a long winter’s nap.
Brandy Fortune began knitting in 2003 when she took what she thought was a crochet class at a local yarn store. In 2007 Brandy gave birth to her daughter, and knit several sweaters throughout her pregnancy. While there were loads of darling patterns, she wanted something a little different. Thus began her adventures in designing knitwear for babies. You can read the Pixie Purls blog, and see her other knitwear designs by visiting her website.

When she is not knitting or dreaming about knitting, Allegra Wermuth is a mother, wife, teacher and professional violinist living outside of Denver, Colorado. Her father taught her to knit six years ago when she wanted to knit small decorative scarves for all the women who were a part of her wedding. She hasn't put her needles down since. You can read about her adventures in knitting at her blog.

Joan Beebe, a.k.a SSKnits, has been knitting, crocheting and tech editing nearly non-stop for more years than she cares to admit. She tech edits and plays with yarn from her home in windy Wichita, KS where she lives with her husband and 2 youngest kids. You can follow her musings on her sporadically updated blog.
